An Evening with
Garrison Keillor
In celebration of the 125th
Anniversary of Lutheran Social
Services of Northern California
(LSS), the organization
contracted The Lundquist Company
to produce “An Evening with
Garrison Keillor” at Memorial
Auditorium, the third largest
venue in
Sacramento.
The ticketed event was expected
to serve as a bonding event
between the congregations of
more than 200 regional Lutheran
Churches, draw media attention
to LSS, and serve as a
fundraiser for LSS. Fourteen
days prior to the event Mr.
Keillor had a stroke, and the
event had to be cancelled.
The Lundquist Company’s
professional experience resulted
in this not being a monetary and
public relations catastrophe for
our client as we advised them
early on to purchase
cancellation insurance.
In addition, most of the
sponsors did not request a
refund of their investment.
Even though Mr. Keillor was
unable to perform, the event
garnered positive publicity for
the 100th Anniversary
of Lutheran Social Services of
Northern California, church
groups worked together for a
common goal, all budgeted
expenses were covered by
cancellation insurance, and
ticket holders received refunds.
Mr. Keillor recovered and
continues to entertain Lutherans
and other audiences.
