Matthew Kilgore Cemetery, Rededication Ceremony

On May 18, 2007, Rancho Cordova rededicated its pioneer era cemetery “New Orleans Style." As the gates of the newly restored cemetery were opened, a jubilant procession entered, lead by a Dixieland band, two white horses pulling an undertaker carriage, clergy, City dignitaries, a cart with two recovered headstones, and two hundred descendents of the cemetery founders and guests and waving white handkerchiefs. Historic displays, a ceremony and barbecue rounded out the joyous celebration.
