Baseball has returned to Sacramento in 2000
with the newly formed Sacramento River Cats Triple-A baseball team.

Culminating months of preparation, a parade down Capitol Mall kicked off groundbreaking ceremonies for Raley Field, home of the Sacramento River Cats. In October, 1999, the principals behind the Sacramento River Cats joined with local governing officials, sponsors, and future and former Sacramento players in breaking ground for the field just west of the Tower Bridge.
