American Red
Cross 9/11 Heroes Breakfast
The Sacramento Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross was tasked to recognize
local efforts relating to the 9/11 tragedy. Public nominations for heroes
came from the chapter's seven county area. Ten honorees were selected: a
medical team, a volunteer, a Muslim Sunday School teacher, a Catholic priest, a
housewife, a coroner, a flight attendant, a school teacher, a 7th grade student,
and a 64 person search and rescue team with their dog. The Heroes
Breakfast raised $50,000 and, attended by more than 900, was the largest
gathering of community leaders in California's state capitol on the anniversary
of 9/11.
